Day 1: Hotel to Nalemuru Gate to Simba Camp

Commence the day with a hotel briefing by your guide and mountain team. Travel to Kilimanjaro National Park’s northern entrance, Nalemuru Gate (2,020 m). Secure climbing permits, register for the search and rescue service, and start the trek to Simba Camp (2,625 m).

The trek through a coniferous forest is moderate, allowing you to pace yourself and enjoy the journey. At camp, the experienced mountain crew will set up tents and prepare dinner. Given it’s your first day at this altitude, follow these tips: avoid alcohol and caffeine, stay well-hydrated with at least 4 liters of bottled water daily, and consider a morning Diamox pill for altitude sickness (consult your doctor for allergies).
